Tracking

The ORS of the South Carolina Budget and Control Board linked four separate data sets for this study: (a) the SCDC data set, (b) the SCDC disciplinary data set, (c) the 1996-to-2007 statewide hospital discharge data set, and (d) the 1996-to-2007 statewide emergency department (ED) data set. (Shiroma, Pickelsimer, Ferguson, Gebregziabher, Lattimore, Nicholas, Dukes & Hunt, 2010)

Findings

The study findings suggest that inmates with medically attended TBI have an increased rate of in-prison behavior infractions. For all infractions, male inmates with TBI had an increased rate of 32% and females had a nonsignificant increased rate of 8%. The increase appears greatest for inmates with violent infractions; males had an increased infraction rate of 86% and females an increased rate of 144%. (Shiroma, Pickelsimer, Ferguson, Gebregziabher, Lattimore, Nicholas, Dukes & Hunt, 2010)

Report findings were extensive and cannot be added as PDF’s to our site. Please submit a request at the link above and we will send the report(s) via email within 24-48 business hours.
