Information requested through the Disability Rights New Jersey.

New Jersey has had a screening program has been attempted in the past, but there is no current official screening or specific in our laws mandating it. Department of Corrections mandates that adults have a health and medical physical within 24-hours of admission to a facility, but there is no direct language about screening specifically for TBIs in that process. In the juvenile justice system, there was a bill introduced in 2018 that was proposing to mandate the TBI screening for all DCF youth (including those in youth detention centers) but it never left committee – NJ S3776.
