Brain Injury Association of Hawai’i requested information from Hawai’i Department of Public Safety. The example form of Post-Admission Mental Health Screen includes a ‘YES or NO’ question stating ‘Have you ever had a severe Head Injury requiring treatment?’ ‘When? What happened?’
Hawai’is PSD notes that specific resources provided depends on the inmate’s history and current presentation. Ongoing community treatment is likely to be continued by the PSD Provider. Newly identified cases might include a neuropsychological screen, such as the Wechsler Abbreviated Scale of Intelligence-II (WASI-2) and the Trail Making Test, the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-IV (WAIS-IV), or another indicated screen. Additional resources would include referral to in-house or community-based neuropsychologist for comprehensive testing, referral for medical testing and specialty care.
