Disability Rights NC (DRNC) is launching a critical initiative dedicated to reshaping how our state identifies, understands, and supports individuals affected by brain injuries. DRNC’s Desireé Gorbea-Finalet leads the NC BRAINS (North Carolina Brain Resources and Injury Needs Screening) program, which offers free, evidence-based screening tools, comprehensive educational resources, and self-advocacy tools – all available on this webpage and through contact with Gorbea-Finalet.

Many North Carolinians may be living with undiagnosed brain injuries, and struggling with symptoms that disrupt their daily lives, careers, and relationships. By addressing critical gaps in screening and education, NC BRAINS ensures that individuals receive the recognition, accommodations, and support they need to thrive.

Brain injuries are frequently misunderstood and misdiagnosed, leading to ineffective treatments, unmet needs, and systemic barriers to care. Through NC BRAINS, impacted individuals, caregivers, healthcare professionals, social workers, educators, first responders, and other service providers gain access to specialized training to better identify and facilitate support for brain injuries. Additionally, the program empowers individuals and caregivers by providing self-screening tools, personalized educational resources, and connections to community-based support services. Prioritizing accessibility and privacy, NC BRAINS operates through a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform, enabling individuals to take control of their health and well-being with confidence.

By expanding access to screening and equipping providers with essential knowledge, NC BRAINS is laying the foundation for a more inclusive, informed, and supportive North Carolina. Whether you are a survivor, a caregiver, a provider, or an advocate, your participation can make a lasting impact. If you or a loved one may have experienced a brain injury, visit NC BRAINS today to get screened, access critical services, and learn more.
