Gain advocacy and leadership skills while learning about voting rights

Attention high school seniors in Robeson County: DRNC is piloting a voting rights apprenticeship program this spring in your county. If you are a senior this year who identifies as having a disability and are passionate about voting rights, this apprenticeship may be for you! This program is open to high school seniors in Robeson county who identify as having a disability.

Robeson County Voting Rights Apprenticeship

DRNC is now accepting applications for the Robeson County Voting Rights Apprenticeship. This is an 8 week paid apprenticeship open to high school seniors attending on of the following high schools:

  • Fairmont High School
  • Lumberton Senior High
  • Purnell Swett High School
  • Red Springs High School
  • St. Pauls High School

Students with an expressed interest in voter engagement, access, and mobilization. Students must identify as a person with a disability and be a high school senior.

Application Deadline: Applications received by February 12, 2021 will receive priority consideration.

Final application deadline is February 19, 2021.

Length: Eight weeks

Program Description

Who should apply?

We are seeking energetic and self-motivated high school seniors in Robeson County who identify as a person with disabilities. The applicant should be passionate about voter engagement and want to ensure that voting sites and the voting process are accessible to people with disabilities. 

To apply for DRNC’s 2021 Voting Rights Apprenticeship you must:

  • Be passionate about voter engagementmobilization and access.
  • Be excited to take on a challenge and learn new skills.
  • Be a high school senior attending one of the following schools: Fairmont High School; Lumberton Senior High; Purnell Swett High School; Red Springs High School; St. Pauls High School.
  • Identify as a person with a disability (visible, invisible, or acquired).

Commitment

This is a virtual apprenticeship. Time commitment will be 5-7 hours per week.

This program will begin in mid-March and continue through May 31.

Voting Rights Apprenticeship Application Requirements

  1. Completed application
  2. Two references. At least one reference should be academic.
  3. Resume
  4. Statement of interest, no more than 500 words
