Call for stories: Help end abuse in PRTFs
SHARE YOUR STORY
Disability Rights NC has launched an intensified campaign to end abuses that happen in some PRTFs and bring NC kids home. Help us keep kids safe. Share your story. Make a difference. A few weeks ago, we posted a story about one of our clients, “Noah”, who lives in a PRTF (psychiatric residential treatment facilities). We described how Noah was sent to receive treatment for his mental health disability. Instead, one worker held him down while another beat him and broke his arm. He was left without medical care for many days.
Disability Rights NC launched Bring NC Kids Home in January 2021. Now we need your help to get the word out about the abuses that happen at some PRTFs. Share your story. Make a difference. Your stories can help us advocate for kids who are sent away to PRTFs.

About Share Your Story
Share Your Story is a DRNC initiative aimed at giving voice to the experiences of people with disabilities in their own words.
We believe that words have power. Words can challenge assumptions, and raise awareness. Words can give hope to others.
We welcome stories from people of all abilities. Stories can be as short as a few words, or they can be longer. They can be a short video or audio clip. They can also be a picture. We will never share your story without permission.
Once we review the content, we may ask you to sign a release, consenting to share your story. If you are under 18 or have a legal guardian, we will need your guardian to sign a consent form as well.
You may be asked to edit your work before we publish it. All stories will be kept confidential unless you sign a release.
If you need help sharing your story, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
