The blue and green design represents the agency’s continued dedication to its mission to advance and defend the rights of people with disabilities in North Carolina. The longleaf pine, North Carolina’s state tree, is part of a diverse, evolving and interconnected ecosystem, a parallel that can be drawn with the state’s diverse disability community. “From Manteo to Murphy,” one in five people live with one or more disabilities in our state. Disability is a common, natural part of human existence that affects people in every region and from all walks of life. DRNC serves this community as a steadfast partner.

“We are excited to roll out our new branding for DRNC,” says Chief Executive Officer Virginia Knowlton Marcus. “We felt it was important to have a unique logo distinct from that of our national organization’s to reflect our position as North Carolina’s Protection & Advocacy system. Like DRNC, the new logo is bold and dynamic, supportive and welcoming, strong and resilient. It renews our public presence while our agency continues its critical advocacy to achieve a just society where people with disabilities are free from discrimination and abuse. Our goal is a fully integrated and accessible community – where people with disabilities have power, equal opportunity, and freedom to make their own decisions.”

About Disability Rights North Carolina

DRNC, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and valued member of the National Disability Rights Network, is the Protection and Advocacy (P&A) system for North Carolina. North Carolina’s P&A was a unit of state government (the Governor’s Advocacy Council for Persons with Disabilities) for 30 years, until it merged with the former Carolina Legal Assistance in 2007 to become a private, independent, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Since that time, DRNC has continued to fight for the rights of people with disabilities in North Carolina.

DRNC believes that people with disabilities have the right to be heard and a right to live in the world. We increase the power of people with disabilities through advocacy and the relentless pursuit of justice. We value integrity, creative strategies and collaboration in our work. We support human dignity, diversity, and civil rights. We fight for full inclusion and self-determination.
